EISCAT Newsletter

EISCAT is growing and we are happy to welcome one more coworker to us:

Hans Erik Fjeld

Hans Erik has written a short presentation of himself, but we will have to wait until the Annual Review Meeting in October to get to see him.

Hi,

My name is Hans Erik Fjeld, I am 27 years old and I will be working for EISCAT in Ramfjordmoen, for most of the year, but in the winter months I will transfer to Svalbard and join the ESR crew.

I have a Master’s degree in electronics from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, with a specialization in Radio and Communications systems. I graduated from NTNU in 2012 and recently moved to Tromsø from Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard where I worked at the Sverdrup Research station for the Norwegian Polar Institute.

I am looking forward to be working for EISCAT and to meet challenges within my field of specialization and way outside of it; to cold hands and getting stuck with a tractor in the snow, to all the good and the bad things, because ever since I watched

James Bond Goldeneye as a kid I have dreamed about working in an antenna in the middle of nowhere and now I am living this dream.

I guess I will get to meet most of you during the Annual Review Meeting this autumn.

See you all there 🙂 /Hans Erik

Instead of a photo of Hans Erik you get to see the famous Arecibo Observatory, seen in the movie Goldeneye. The antenna is located in the jungle of Puerto Rico and not in Cuba as in the movie.
