EISCAT Svalbard Radar (ESR)
Last Update: 2024-09-09
Status: Due to a burnt-out voltage regulator, ESR is inoperable. The new voltage regulator has been ordered in early October, but it has a lead time of three months. We hope to have it earlier, though. Currently, experiments are not possible until end of November.
32-m dish: Due to gearbox failure, the 32-m dish cannot move and can be operated only in the zenith position (elevation 90°). New gearbox and new motor have arrived and have been installed.
Next steps: job safety review to ensure safe operation, on-going.
42-m dish: OK
Tromsø Heating

Status: Array 2 operational with 8 transmitters.
Kiruna VHF Receiver
As of January 2023, the Kiruna receiver for the VHF radar is off-line. The Kiruna antenna was removed in October 2024.
Sodankylä VHF Receiver
As of September 2023, the Sodankylä receiver for the VHF radar is off-line. The Sodankylä antenna will be removed in 2024.
EISCAT_3D Skibotn

Status: Antenna array deployed.
Pending: Start permit for site.
Next step: Installation of receiver and transmitter electronics for seven antenna units, the so-called “PET-7” system.
EISCAT_3D Kaiseniemi

Status: Antenna array deployed.
Completed: PET system moved from Kiruna site to Kaiseniemi site for further testing.
Next step: installation of receiver electronics, starting with a receive-only PET-7.
