Visit our sites

Guided visits to our sites can sometimes be arranged, depending on work load and staff availability. To make a visiting request, contact the person responsible for each site. You find the contact details in the list to the right (or below if using a mobile device.) or in the contact page.

Our sites are all located outside the nearest town and can be hard to reach by public transportation, especially during summer-time.

Student or scientist

Arrange you visit with you supervisor or contact the person in charge for the site you like to visit. Contact information in the right column (or below if browsing from a mobile device) or in the contact page.

Private visits

It is okay to visit our sites by your self (outside only), without arranging a visit. Photos are okay if not stated differently. The roads to the sites can have road barriers that sometimes are left open. Do not pass an open road barrier with any vehicle, you can get trapped if our staff leave and close the road.

You are not allowed to disturb or hinder our staff in their work and you can at all times be asked to leave the premises.

EISCAT Headquarters

How to get here:

To get to us you can either go by bus or car. We are located about 10 km. outside Kiruna along the E10 towards Luleå, at Rymdcampus.

Bus timetables can be found here: http://ltnbd.se/tidtabeller/. The bus stop is called IRF E10 or Kiruna IRF.

EISCAT Kiruna site

How to get here:

The EISCAT Kiruna site is located about 13 km. outside Kiruna, into the woods. No bus stop here, so you need to either go by car or arrange transport with our staff from Headquarters.

The road to the site is a popular walking and running trail. From the road barrier by the E10 to the antenna it is approximately 3 km. Do not pass the road barrier with any vehicle if it is open. You can get trapped.

EISCAT Sodankylä site

How to get here:

The EISCAT Sodankylä site is located about 7 km. south of Sodankylä. If you don’t have access to car, you can take a bus from Sodankylä to Orajärvi and get off at the bus stop in Tähtelä. EISCAT Tromsø site

How to get here:

The EISCAT Tromsø site is located about 28 km. outside Tromsø. The easiest way to get here is by car. If you go by bus, the busses stop by the big road at Leiren, 1,5 km. from the site. Several busses stop here. You can find bus time tables here: https://www.tromskortet.no/?lang=no_NO

EISCAT Svalbard Radar

How to get here:

The EISCAT Svalbard Radar is located about 15 km. outside Longyearbyen. You need to arrange transport with our staff to get here. The surrounding landscape are not safe for walking, due to the occurrence of polar bears and changing weather.

EISCAT 3D Kaiseniemi
