Dr Axel Steuwer started as Director Designate of EISCAT

Dr. Axel Steuwer started as the Director Designate of the EISCAT Scientific Association here in Kiruna on May 1, 2022. He will be working alongside the current director Dr. Craig Heinselman until the end of 2022 and will then take over the reins of EISCAT on January 1, 2023.

Axel has a background in physics and materials science and has worked for over 2 decades at many large-scale science facilities such as ESS and MAX IV here in Sweden, as well as in the UK and France, and was more recently Director of Research Support Services at the University of Malta.

“I am very excited to be here in Kiruna and to join the EISCAT team at such a crucial time in the construction of the EISCAT 3D, and I am very keen to discover the outstanding nature this area has to offer.”
