EISCAT_3D at Kaiseniemi, located in the northern parts of Sweden, is an important part of the advanced EISCAT_3D research radar system. Together with the other sites in Norway and Finland, the Kaiseniemi site helps create a powerful three-dimensional view of the Earth’s upper atmosphere and near-Earth space.
By receiving radio waves with high precision, the radar at Kaiseniemi allows scientists to study how charged particles and energy move through the ionosphere. Its location at high latitude provides excellent conditions for observing auroral activity and space weather processes that affect the polar regions.
When combined with data from the other EISCAT_3D sites, measurements from Kaiseniemi enable researchers to track dynamic processes over large areas and to better understand how the Sun interacts with the Earth’s space environment. The site plays a key role in transforming individual observations into a comprehensive, three-dimensional picture of near-Earth space.
EISCAT_3D at Kaiseniemi supports international research collaboration, education and innovation, and contributes to improved space weather knowledge that benefits both science and society.
